The Palmerton girls’ basketball team wrapped up a dominant run through the regular season in Colonial League play with another victory on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-Bangor

Palmerton capped the Colonial League season with a perfect record thanks to a 56-43 league victory over Bangor.

The Bombers (20-1 overall; 18-0 CL) opened the game with a 20-point first quarter thanks to Raegan Nemeth draining three three-pointers, which helped her break the school’s record for career threes. Nemeth finished with 12 points.

Bethie Morgan was a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line on the fourth for Palmerton, finishing with a game-high 17 points. Megan Matsko added 10 points.

Kaylee Holland and McCormick Karner both recorded 13 points for the Slaters (15-6, 13-3).

A big fourth quarter from McKenna Meckes helped Tamaqua pull out a 39-38 non-league win over Moravian Academy.

Meckes netted nine of her game-high 17 points in the final eight minutes for the Blue Raiders (8-13). Trenyce Wingler posted five of her nine points as Tamaqua outscored Moravian 16-11 in the final period.

Tianna Tout-Puissant led the Lions (7-13) with a team-high 14 points.

Ella Muir and Kelly Williams combined for the other eight Pleasant Valley points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Weatherly-Marian

Brendan Lonergan scored a career-high 38 points to lift Marian to a 79-56 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Lonergan, who also pulled down 13 rebounds, registered 24 of his points in the first half as the Colts jumped out to a 20-point lead at the break. The 38 points are the sixth most in a game by a Marian boys player.

Julius Currie hit six three-pointers and tallied 20 points in the win, the team’s fourth in a row. Logan Fritz chipped in with 11 points and eight boards.

For the Wreckers, Ian McLaurin finished with a team-high 21 points, while Frankie Willis added 13.

The Colts improved to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in the league. Weatherly dropped to 1-16 and 0-10.

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Tamaqua gave Blue Mountain all it could handle before dropping a 62-60 Schuylkill League decision in overtime.

Carson Kerstetter led four Eagles players in double-digit scoring, finishing with a game-high 17 points.

The Blue Raiders, who led by two at halftime, received a team-high 16 points from Connor Dillon. Cooper Ansbach contributed 13 points, while Noah Mateyak finished with 11.

The loss dropped Tamaqua to 7-14 overall and 4-9 in the league. Blue Mountain, meanwhile, is now 12-9 and kept its slim league playoff hopes alive while improving to 7-5.

Donald Francois Jr. scored a career-high 27 points to help Pleasant Valley end an 11-game losing streak with a 61-43 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Stroudsburg.

Francois hit for 12 points in the third quarter as the Bears, whose last win came on Jan. 11, extended their 13-point halftime lead.

Ryan Blass finished with nine points, while Sean Hallenbeck posted six during PV’s decisive 16-4 second quarter.

For the Mounties, Blake Best tallied a team-high 14 points.

The Bears are now 4-16, while Stroudsburg ended its season at 8-14.

Lehighton nearly rallied for an upset win over North Schuylkill, but the Spartans hung on for a 46-45 Schuylkill League victory.

The Indians trailed by 13 points at halftime, but Jack Lorenz brought the host team back, scoring 17 of his game-high 19 points after the break.

Brayden Lutz also contributed eight points to the Lehighton cause.

For North Schuylkill, which improved to 11-8 overall and 8-4 in the league, Jack Keiter posted a team-best 13 points.

The narrow defeat dropped the Indians to 4-17 and 1-12.

The Cardinals led by just three points entering the fourth quarter, but hit eight free throws in the final period to pull away for the win.

Dalton Geecey scored a game-high 17 points for Pine Grove, while Chase Weaver paced the Panthers with nine.

PV fell to 11-9 overall and 5-8 in the league. The Cardinals are now 9-11 and 4-8.
