Walker Township Parks Commission to discuss grant funds
The Walker Township Parks Commission is looking at the best use for about $84,000 in grant funds from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The commission is holding a meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the municipal building to discuss plans for the funds. Walker Township established the commission in June to help determine what repairs and upgrades are needed for Wildcat Park.
The township is also looking for additional people to join the commission, to help Walker Township use the grant and to help improve recreation within the township. Anyone interested is welcome to attend the meeting. Questions can be directed to the borough secretary at walkertwpsecretary@gmail.com or call 570-668- 4603.
Nuisance ordinance
The supervisors voted to advertise two changes to the fines for the nuisance ordinance for the township. For the first change, at present, the fine is $1,000, regardless of the situation. The changes will make the fines range from $100 to $1,000, allowing the magistrates to better assess each situation.
The second change is how a notice letter is delivered.
“The notice letter that predates the filing of the citation,” explained township solicitor Chris Riedlinger, “the ordinance requires that letter be sent by certified mail. Sometimes people don’t accept certified mail, so then you will not have served the letter. I proposed that we change it to first class mail; if it does not come back, the court will presume it was delivered.”
Township supervisors voted to advertise the change to the ordinance, and will vote on the ordinance at the March meeting.
