A former Slatington fire chief has been added to the Palmerton Municipal Fire Company.

Borough council on a 6-0 vote on Thursday appointed Jason Nicholas as a fire company member.

Nicholas had most recently been fire chief of the Slatington Volunteer Fire Department.

Slatington Borough Manager Dan Stevens said at Slatington Borough Council’s reorganization meeting earlier this month that Nicholas was moving out of the borough, which made him ineligible to stay on as Slatington’s fire chief.

Austin Berger took over for Nicholas as fire chief of the Slatington Volunteer Fire Department.

Nicholas had served as Slatington’s fire chief since February 2017.
