Man admitted firing shots in Franklin Twp.

A Lehighton man has been charged after he admitted firing shots during an argument.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Jared Green of the Franklin Township Police Department in the case against Jahn Schafer:

At 4:19 a.m., Green was dispatched to the intersection of Long Run Road and Indian Hill for a report of shots fired.

He met with the victim, who said he was drinking with Schafer, 40, and staying at his home on Long Run Road.

He said Schafer got upset about not being able to find his car keys, so he started to walk home.

He said Schafer went inside his residence, retrieved a handgun and fired a single shot in the direction of the victim, who then ran toward the intersection and remained there until police arrived.

Green found Schafer standing on his front porch. As he pulled up, Schafer put his hands in the air and was detained.

Green found a 9 mm shell casing and Schafer consented to a search of his home.

Schafer told police the 9 mm was under his desk on a bucket, but no gun was recovered.

Schafer admitted to police to being in an altercation with the victim and went back inside his home to retrieve a 9 mm handgun.

Schafer admitted to firing a single round, not at the victim, but the dirt bank across the street.

Schafer faces charges of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another; recklessly endangering another person; simple assault and harassment.

He is free after $10,000, 10% was posted, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Feb. 2 before District Judge William J. Kissner of Palmerton.
