Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 22

The Panther Valley boys and Northwestern girls extended their winning streaks with victories on Saturday.

The Panthers posted their sixth straight triumph, while the Tigers have now won 10 games in a row.

Other winners included the Tamaqua, Northern Lehigh and Weatherly girls.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Williams Vy.-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley won its sixth game in a row, cruising to a 73-44 non-league victory over Williams Valley on Senior Day.

Stephen Hood scored a career-high 33 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Hood connected on six three-pointers as the team finished with 12 in the contest.

PV, which improved to 9-5, used a 25-10 second quarter to break the game open. Hood tallied nine points during the big period, while senior Ben Kindt added eight of his nine points during the frame.

Michael Pascoe chipped in with eight points, and senior Gen Turner pulled down nine rebounds.

The Panthers also posted a 54-14 win in the JV game.

Tamaqua-Roberto Clemente

Tamaqua’s fourth-quarter rally came up a bit short as the Blue Raiders dropped a 68-65 non-league decision to Roberto Clemente Charter School.

Trailing by 14 points entering the final frame, Tamaqua outscored its opponent 27-16, but it wasn’t enough to prevent its fifth straight loss.

Connor Dillon finished with a team-high 17 points for the Raiders, while Steven Hoffman contributed 16 and Nate Gregoire added 13.

The Pirates receive a game-high 18 points from Christian Ceballos.

Tamaqua fell to 5-10, and Roberto Clemente improved to 7-5.

Marian had its four-game winning streak halted as East Stroudsburg North jumped out early and coasted to a 57-31 non-league victory.

The Timberwolves used an 18-2 second quarter to build a 26-point halftime lead.

Kyle John paced the winners, now 4-11, with a game-high 16 points.

The Colts, who dropped to 7-3, received a team-high nine points from Frank Valente. Logan Fritz chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.

Southern Lehigh remained undefeated in Colonial League play after downing Northwestern by a 47-32 score.

The Spartans, now 14-0 in the league, used a 15-4 second quarter to gain a comfortable lead.

Max Pristas tallied 11 of his game-high 20 points in the first half for the winners.

The Tigers, who fell to 8-8 overall and 8-6 in the league, received a team-high 12 points from Gavin Nelson.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tri-Valley-Tamaqua

Trenyce Wingler scored a team-high 18 points and Tamaqua held off a late Tri-Valley charge to gain a 41-39 non-league victory.

After building an 11-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Blue Raiders hung on to up their record to 6-7.

The winners also received nine points from Lorelei Plasha.

Grace Header paced the Bulldogs (10-5) with 18 points.

In the JV game, Tamaqua earned a 34-32 win behind 14 points from Makayla Bartenope.

Northwestern ran its winning streak to 10 straight games after rolling to a 59-20 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Paige Sevrain scored 14 of her game-high 20 points during the first two quarters as the Tigers jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead.

Rylee McGinley hit four three-pointers and finished the contest with 14 points, while the winners also received 13 from Cara Thomas.

The win pushed Northwestern’s record to 15-3 overall and 13-1 in the league.

A big game from Emma Niebell helped Northern Lehigh earn a 55-49 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Niebell finished with a game-high 26 points, with 12 of her points coming in the fourth quarter to help the Bulldogs even their overall record at 7-7 and improve to 5-6 in the league.

The winners, who hit nine three-pointers in the contest, also received 11 points from Katelynn Barthold and seven from Cadence Whalen.

Jillian Mofro finished with 25 points for the Green Knights, who dropped to 9-8 overall and 6-6 in the CL.

The 1-2 punch of Addison Benner and Emily Savitz helped Brandywine Heights post a 54-39 non-league victory over Panther Valley.

Benner finished with a game-high 20 points, including four three-pointers, while Savitz ended the contest with 19 points. Benner hit for nine of her points in the first quarter, and Savitz had 11 in the second as the Bullets built a 23-point halftime lead.

The Panthers received a team-high 15 points from Sera Robin, who also hit four three-pointers. Kaidence Krapf chipped in with eight points.

The loss dropped PV to 1-12.

Emma Kane scored three of her 20 points in the extra period to help the Wreckers improve to 4-9 and earn their first league victory.

Weatherly, which finished 25-of-37 at the free-throw line, received a game-high 21 points from Bethany Houser.

Anna Schaeffer tallied a team-high 12 points for the Hurricanes (3-7; 0-6).

The Bears, who dropped their sixth straight game and fell to 6-8, received a team-high five points from Drew Morgan.

Weatherly dropped a 61-42 decision to North Schuylkill.

Jacob Tom scored a game-high 20 points for the Wreckers, while Corbin Wagner added 13.

North Schuylkill posted a 29-15 victory over Weatherly.

Kaiden Wesner and Chase Grier both had five points for the Wreckers.
