Soup sale ends
Effort UMC’s soup sale ends today. Soups are loaded baked potato and cheeseburger soup. Pickup is Jan. 23.

Free dinner
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is offering its free community dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. today. All are welcome.
The free meal is available by way of a drive-thru pickup.
Pocono Women
The Pocono Women’s Club will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Effort United Methodist Church.
Special service
The Annual Prayer for Christian Unity Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Route 209, Brodheadsville. Pastors and congregants from local churches and the PVEN organization will be participating in this service, reports the host church.
Donations for the PVEN Food Pantry and Clothing Closet will be greatly appreciated.
All are welcome. Please note that there will be no meal following the service.
Crafternoon soon
The Western Pocono Community Library has announced its January Crafternoon as being tissue flowers. This will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday. Adults only is the request. Registration is required.
PV Pride event
There will be a celebration of PV Pride on Friday in the Pleasant Valley schools.
Supervisor needed
Eldred Township needs a new supervisor due to the resignation of a prior township supervisor.
Letters of interest will be accepted until 3 p.m. Jan. 21 for appointment to the vacant township supervisor office.
Letters of interest should include a resume of the individual’s education, work and/or other relevant experience, and a statement as to why the person desires to be appointed to the township supervisor office.
Letters need to be submitted in writing to the township secretary via hand delivery or mailed to the township offices at 490 Kunkletown Road, P.O. Box 600, Kunkletown, PA 18058, or emailed to the township secretary at a.velopolcek@eldredtwp.org. Any letter of interest sent by mail must be received prior to the deadline for acceptance of letter of interest.
The individual appointed to the vacant office must be a registered elector of the township and have resided in the township continuously for at least one year prior to their appointment.
A special meeting to interview applicants will be held at 5 p.m. Jan. 27, at the municipal offices.
The board also intends to vote on the appointment to the vacancy at the meeting. The special meeting will also be for general business purposes and for any business that may come before the board.
Pantry open
The West End Pantry in Kunkletown will continue its distribution this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Effort pantry
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Those who are able to donate are asked to bring canned vegetables such as corn, green beans, peas, carrots, etc.

Winter walk
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a Kettle Creek Discovery Hike for 10 a.m. Saturday.
If there is snow, animal tracks and tracking will be discussed, otherwise participants will learn how to read the forest for signs of wildlife and past events.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is planning on the Cherub Choir singing at 8 a.m. service on Sunday.
Sunday supper
Our Lady Queen of Peace is holding its next Sunday community supper from 3 to 4 p.m. this Sunday.
Polk meeting
A general meeting for the township’s Board of Supervisors is on the schedule from Polk Township for 7 p.m. Monday at the township’s municipal Building in Kresgeville.
