St. Luke’s Health Network may have closed its Lehighton campus when it opened its new Carbon campus, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end for the former Gnaden Huetten hospital emergency department.
On Wednesday, during the Carbon County Interagency Collaborative meeting, John Nespoli, president of the St. Luke’s Carbon Campus, updated the group on the former Gnaden Huetten site.
Nespoli said St. Luke’s is working to convert the old Lehighton ED to a center for behavioral health.
“This will be something that will be available to all patients regardless of health system affiliation,” he said. “It’s just an alternative for patients currently with behavioral health episodes rather than going to the hospital emergency department, to walk into a behavioral health walk-in center that can get immediate assessment and treatment and triage.”
The health network is hoping to open the center by July.
