Rock painting
The Western Pocono Community Library will host a rock painting time today, beginning at 1:30 p.m. All supplies are provided.
Eldred planners
The Eldred Township Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. today.
Polk meeting
The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 8 a.m. Thursday. It is a general meeting.
PVEN meeting
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will hold its board meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday.
PV school board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pleasant Valley High School Auditorium.
WELL Meeting
The West End Little League Board of Directors has a meeting on its calendar for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park. The open meeting is next week, at the same time, the same place.
Friday fun
The West End Park and Open Space Commission invites the community to Blast Off into the New Year of 2022 by dropping in at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville, joining others who are creating a wood rocket or space craft between the hours of 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, and testing how high that personally made Stomp Rocket can go afterward.
Officer elected
Re-elected to the position of Chief of the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company was Billy Tippett. Chad Snyder was re-elected president for 2022.
Others serving as officers include Deputy Chief Derrick Burger, Assistant Chief Matt Schessler, Capt. Jim Schaefer, Capt. Chad Snyder, Lt. Patrick Soucy, Lt. Mike Sabo, Lt. Aaron Keller, Engineer Joel Kingsbury and Fire Police Capt. John Engels.
For December, the volunteers responded to 27 emergencies, completed 137 hours of training and participated in 180 hours of fundraising.
The company ended the year with 237 emergency responses.
Fellowship breakfast
Effort UMC’s fellowship breakfast will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, weather-permitting.
This is a free will offering event that supports the Capital Improvement Fund of the church. The trustees are hosting it.
Girlfriends breakfast
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church is holding its Girlfriends Rise and Shine and breakfast at 10 a.m. Saturday on the lower level.
Those planning to attend are reminded to register.
Breakfast buffet
Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company is holding its all-you-can-eat buffet-style breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m.
ALPHA postponed
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced it is postponing the beginning event of its ALPHA program until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday due to the increase in COVID cases.
Seekers meet
Monday, at 10 a.m., Effort UMC’s Seekers group is meeting.
Pizza pickup
Those who ordered pizza from McMichaels UMC’s Martha Stout are reminded to pickup pizzas on Saturday by noon and to please wear a mask.
Race night
The Knights of Columbus is having a Night at the Races at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Jan. 15.
It is open to anyone 18 and older. The admission cost includes food and a chance at door prizes. Bring your own beverage.

Prayer Shawl group
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Visitors are welcome to join those knitting or crocheting.
Soup sale now
Effort UMC is holding its soup sale through Jan. 19. Soups are loaded baked potato and cheeseburger soup. Pick up is Jan. 23.

Free dinner
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is offering its free community dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. Jan. 19. All are welcome.
The free meal is available by way of a drive-thru pickup.
Unity Prayer Day
The Annual Prayer for Christian Unity service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 20, at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Brodheadsville. All are welcome. There will be no meal following the service.
