Illegal gun, drugs discovered in traffic stop

State police at the Lehighton barracks arrested two area residents on drug and firearms charges after a traffic stop at 12:32 p.m. Nov. 25 at the intersection of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and Route 873 in Washington Township.

Jonathan Groegler, 33, of Lehighton, and Brandin Brong, 28, of Walnutport, were charged with felony drug and weapons charges and committed to the Carbon County Prison, Nesquehoning.

They were occupants of a 2007 Audi A4 that was stopped for traffic violations. Police observed indicators of criminal activity. Police said Groegler also showed signs of impairment.

Police seized a pistol containing an obliterated serial number, suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and prohibited offensive weapons during a search of the vehicle.
