Parryville passes budget with no tax increase
Santa, delivered by the Parryville Fire Company, visited Parryville’s monthly council meeting to congratulate them for a job well done.
Parryville’s budget passed and taxes have not been raised for over 20 years.
President Cathy Hawk said she wanted to “laud the community, borough council and treasurer (Dana Brubaker) for not being like everyone else.”
In her comments, Hawk mentioned meeting with other leaders from around the state that have been forced to raise taxes to support initiatives like the fire department and public works.
In some cases, other townships are raising taxes by $1 million to 2 million a year.
She said that because of Brubaker’s “financial skills and creativity with grants, we have not had to raise taxes. She is always keeping us on track and helping us find new ways to work within our budget.”
A public meeting to discuss sewage costs for homeowners will take place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the fire company.
Jason Smith encouraged residents “to come out and ask questions” of the sewage enforcement officer scheduled to be at the meeting.
Dustin Wentz reported that the new security camera program at the park is working well.
In addition to adding trash cans, the cameras have shown that while the kids play at the park after dusk, “no one is doing any damage.”
He said he’d like to keep the lights on past dusk for the teenagers because he’d “rather have them at the park than on the streets. It’s a safe place for them to be.”
Gail Schafer was elected and has accepted the role as tax collector for Parryville.
