Wilkes-Barre man charged with stealing vehicle in Coaldale

Coaldale Police recently charged a Wilkes-Barre man with robbery of a motor vehicle.

Borough police say Randy Maurer Jr., 25, stole a car March 25, which was later found.

A Coaldale woman told police she was placing her daughter in a car seat when a man told her to give her the keys after asking where a convenience store was. The woman said Maurer had his hand in his pockets as if to demonstrate he had a gun, which she thought was protruding from his pocket, according to the affidavit.

The Tamaqua Police stopped the car on East Broad Street where Maurer was arrested.

He is charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and simple assault.

Magisterial District Justice Stephen Bayer set bail at $10,000 unsecured. Maurer waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He will next face the charges in Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.
