Verona’s Pizza House to host annual Thanksgiving dinner

A Lehighton business will once again provide takeout dinners this Thanksgiving holiday.

Verona Pizza House will host its ninth annual Thanksgiving Dinner from noon to 3 p.m.

The dinners are takeout only at the side window of the business at 401 Mahoning St.

They are first-come, first-served, according to owner Slavi Buglov.

Buglov said the event is being hosted by Verona Pizza House and Zimmerman Dairy.

“I do it for the customers,” Buglov said. “It’s one way to appreciate all these years keeping me in business.”

Buglov said the business is happy to be able to once again carry out the gesture.

“I have the opportunity this time of year to give something back to the community, and say thank you for supporting the business,” he said.

Buglov said the traditional dinner will consist of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn and gravy, as well as an iced tea from Zimmerman’s Dairy in Lehighton.

“We try to still keep it as safe for everybody,” he said. “Hopefully next year, we’ll go back to our normal Thanksgiving we always do at the (Lehighton) Rec Center.”

Buglov said that last year the business also offered take out and gave away about 55 meals. In 2019, when they served at the Rec Center, they gave out about 150 plates.

“I cook a lot; I do to-go containers,” he said. “I do the fire department, police station, emergency rooms; I donate for staff who is on duty that day on Thanksgiving.”

Buglov said it’s their way to give back to all those who support the business year in and year out.

“I make a couple trays for each station; we support, they support, and we give back to them,” he said. “It’s one way to appreciate.”
