Three Carbon projects get state funding
State Sen. John Yudichak, I-Luzerne/Carbon, and Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, announced Friday that three Carbon County projects received funding.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded over $450,000 in Multimodal Transportation Funds and Act 13 funds for projects in Palmerton, Jim Thorpe and Beaver Meadows.
“The investments announced today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority under the Multimodal Transportation Funding program will help our localities make needed infrastructure improvements that will create jobs, reinvigorate our economy and keep people safe,” Yudichak said.
“Beaver Meadows’ new pavilion and the playground planned for Jim Thorpe will be community assets for years to come, benefiting residents of all ages. These projects are funded through the natural gas impact fee and I look forward to their completion,” said Heffley. “In addition, the multimodal grant for the Palmerton project will provide for better access to the property, creating greater economic opportunity and a broader tax base.”
Northface Road
Phase III Environmental LLC will receive $100,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Multimodal Transportation Fund for roadway improvements at the future Palmerton Business Park. The project will establish a direct entrance from Route 248 to the business park and connection to Northface Road.
Northface Road will also provide publicly accessible connections between 248, Delaware Avenue and Mauch Chunk Road.
The project calls for a traffic light at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Industrial Drive. The Palmerton Business Park is a remediated site that is anticipated to support more than 3,000 jobs once completed.
Memorial Park
Established by the Marcellus Legacy Fund, he Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program has awarded $127,838 to Jim Thorpe for improvements to Memorial Park. This project will establish a dedicated playground for ages 2 to 5 and constructing a fitness area to serve ages 5 and older.
Beaver Meadows will receive $229,000 for the Memorial Park Recreation Pavilion. The project will complete the construction of the pavilion across from Memorial Park, installing exterior framing and siding and interior improvements, including ADA compliant restrooms, new plumbing and electrical service, light fixtures and heating and cooling units. Phase II includes concrete sidewalks and ADA accessible curb ramps.
