Construction of the new Lehigh Valley Hospital–Carbon continues to advance with hospital leaders anticipating a mid-2022 ribbon cutting.

“We continue to focus on being the lifelong partner that we established decades ago and are proud to be extending our care and commitment to greater levels in the community,” says Terrence Purcell, President of LVHN Northwest and also President of the new LVH–Carbon.

The 100,000-square-foot facility is now fully under roof, windows have been installed and some early painting has already been completed.

“We are initiating our heat plant and air handlers to ensure stable temperatures as winter approaches,” noted William Reppy, LVHN Northwest vice president of operations.

“This will allow crews to continue the bulk of the remaining inside work to be completed before lifesaving technology and equipment is installed later in 2022.”

Construction of the $80 million facility began early in 2021.

Crews have been reshaping the landscape and parking areas making the facility more visible from the adjacent Route 443. When complete, it will serve as Carbon County’s newest hospital with state-of-the-art design and technology.

The new hospital will expand upon the services already offered in the area. Some of the services at the hospital include surgical care provided by the Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence, comprehensive heart care through Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute as well as care provided by the Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute, neurology, endocrinology, pulmonology and other services close to home.

The new LVH–Carbon will feature 18 all-private hospital rooms with the capability of expanding to 36 beds. Additionally, LVH–Carbon will have a 12-bed Emergency Room, two operating suites and two special procedure rooms. The 24/7 ER will be staffed by the same physicians who work at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest. LVH–Carbon will adjoin with an all-new Medical Office Building being constructed as part of this hospital project. It will provide further convenience for residents who can visit their practitioner, have a laboratory or imaging study and have immediate access to other LVHN services, all in one visit.

“Convenience and the best possible patient experience are things we strive to accomplish each day,” says Purcell. “We are already taking that into consideration as we build this new facility.”

LVH–Carbon is already recruiting the health care professionals who will care for their friends and neighbors at the Carbon County facility. More than 150 new jobs are expected to be created when the hospital opens.
