Carbon County President Judge Roger N. Nanovic and Judge Joseph J. Matika received overwhelming approval ratings in Tuesday’s general election balloting, as county voters voted favorably for the return to the bench for additional 10-year terms.
By law, judges are up for retention votes of “yes” or “no” every year.
Nanovic is completing his 20th years on the Court of Common Pleas while Matika is in his 10th year on the bench.
In Tuesday’s balloting, Nanovic received 9,874 “yes” votes that will send him back to head the judiciary. A total of 2,852 voters decided “no” on his retention vote.
Matika received 9,525 “yes” votes and 2,906 “no” votes, rating him another 10 years on the bench.
In another balloting, Magisterial District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of District 56-3-04 was running unopposed for another six-year term. He appeared on both ballots Tuesday and received 1,589 complimentary votes.
