2021 general election: Schuylkill County local races
There were few races on the local level on Tuesday - borough councils, mayors, tax collectors and township supervisors, were the offices up for election. Following are the results.
Tamaqua
There were three seats up for election to the borough council, four-year terms, with four candidates.
The winners were Mary Linkevich, 686; Kathy Kunkel, 666; and Richie Linkhorst, 603. The candidate out of the running is David E. Mace, 410. Mace is a longtime member who had served as council president. Linkevich and Linkhorst are incumbents and Kunkel a newcomer.
There was a race for a two-year term on council with Jay A. Hollenbach Jr., Republican, defeating Kunkel, who had the Democratic nod, 642 to 355.
Republican Mayor Nathan J. Gerace secured another four-year term, winning for nominations in the spring. On Tuesday he got 871 votes.
Tax collector Pamela J. McCullion got both nominations in the May primary to win another term. Her vote total Tuesday was 916.
Others votes were for constable, Charles T. Rodgers, 815; judge of election in the fourth precinct Maria Deer, 163; and in the third, Annette Nowacki, 232; judge of election, in the fourth, Sara Haldeman, 129; and auditor, Betsy Melnick, 803.
Coaldale
There were no races in Coaldale. Mayor Herb Whildin got both nods in the spring, 317; council, four-year terms, two to be elected, Democrats Francis J. Hutta, 233, and Angela Krapf, 211; tax collector, incumbent Catherine M. Cathy Papesh, both nods, 350.
Other votes, constable, Odess Remington, both nods, 342; judge of election, first, Jo-Ann Petosa 156; inspector of election, east, Karen Harkins 146.
New Ringgold
Few candidates for open positions. No mayor candidate, 16 write-ins; council, two to be elected, four-year terms, Ryan Eckert, Republican, 44; seven write-ins; tax collector, Republican Corriann C. Myers, 45. Other votes, constable, Barbara Belsak, 31; judge of election, Donna Messner, 40; inspector of election, Naomi Belsak, 38.
New Philadelphia
