Polk lowers speed on two township roads

Polk Township has lowered the speed limit on Doney and Haney roads.

The speed limit on Doney Road is now 20 mph and Haney Road is now 25 mph.

“We changed the speed on Haney Road to try to eliminate people driving too fast on the road and we lowered the speed on Haney because of the weight limit of trucks traveling on the road,” said Polk Township Supervisors’ Vice Chairman Mike Hurley.

In other business, Supervisors’ Chairman and roadmaster Brian Ahner announced the older truck that was advertised on Municbid was sold for $1,500.

The Park and Recreation Committee has been researching what type of trees and plants they could purchase and plant along the streams in the township to help keep the water cooler for fish in the summer, according to Robert Butler, head of the committee.

“Fortunately, the Park and Rec Committee have paired up with the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited and they are happy to help the committee to create a blueprint and help with choosing the right plants, grasses and trees in order to have a successful plan for keeping the fish cool in hot weather.”

Founded in Michigan in 1959, Trout Unlimited today is a national nonprofit organization with 300,000 members and supporters dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring watersheds and streams North America’s cold water fisheries and their streams.

Trout Unlimited has a chapter in Tannersville, the Brodhead #289 chapter in Tannersville.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 22.

Polk Township building will be closed on Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving.
