State police report on Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways:

• A motorcycle crash occurred on Oct. 1 at 1:47 a.m. along Route 209 in Port Carbon. Troopers said Brandon W. Huntzinger, 29, of Port Carbon, was operating a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound when the bike left the right side of the road and struck a tree. After striking the tree, the bike traveled 10 feet and struck a utility pole.

Huntzinger sustained serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. The investigation into the crash is continuing.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:16 a.m. on Oct. 3 along Frisbee Road in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Sadie M. Delpais, 51, of New Ringgold, was northbound and attempting to negotiate a left curve. He attempted to avoid a deer that was on the road and ran off the road and hit a tree. Troopers said there was heavy fog at the time.

Delpais and his passenger, Haley M. Delpais, 18, of New Ringgold, were not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:53 a.m. on Oct. 3 in Branch Township along the Minersville Llewellyn Highway (Route 553). Troopers said Chauncey M. Cunningham, 31, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2014 Toyota Sienna northbound when the vehicle went onto the right berm and struck an embankment. The vehicle then overturned and crossed the road, striking a utility pole on the left side.

Troopers said Cunningham fled the scene but was apprehended by Minersville police and brought back to the scene. He was found to be impaired and refused to submit to a blood draw.

The vehicle was towed.

Cunningham was charged with driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked. A DUI count pending.

• Joseph J. Reed, 36, of Schuylkill Haven, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 10:28 a.m. Sept. 22 on East Main Street in North Manheim Township.

Police said he was driving a 2005 Lincoln Continental east on East Main Street when the car left the lane of travel, drifted into the westbound lane, traveled onto the north shoulder and struck a utility pole.

Police said Reed refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police said he was cited for the crash.

• Artisan R. LaChere, 74, of New Ringgold, was unhurt after a one-vehicle crash at 6:58 p.m. Sept. 28 at the intersection of Route. 61 and Pine View Lane in West Brunswick Township.

Police said he was driving a 2010 Cadillac that crashed on the two-lane highway.

Police said charges of failure to provide immediate notice of the crash are pending the completion of their investigation.
