State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers in Schuylkill County:

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 7:58 a.m. on Sept. 23 along Lake Drive in Rush Township. Troopers said Barron J. Stauffenberg, 19, of Tamaqua, driving a 2016 Ford Fusion, was northbound, and Ashley C. Watkins, 34, of Nesquehoning, driving a 2016 Jeep Patriot, was southbound.

Stauffenberg was negotiating a left curve and traveled into the southbound travel lane and struck the Jeep with his Ford. The left front end of the Ford struck the left front of the Jeep. No one was injured.

Troopers said Stauffenberg was cited for the crash.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 4:47 p.m. on Aug. 20 along Route 309 in Rush Township. Troopers said Donald E. Matz, 78, of Delano, driving a 2021 Toyota Rav4, was attempting to turn left onto 309 without proper clearance and struck a 2004 GMC Yukon operated by Harry O. Valentine, 51, of Barnesville. The Toyota had to be towed from the scene while the Yukon sustained minor damage.

No one was injured.

Troopers cited Matz for stop sign violation.

• A crash was reported at 6:27 a.m. on Sept. 23 along Highridge Road in Cass Township, at the intersection with Keystone Boulevard. Troopers said Jose V. Bonilla, 39, of Schuylkill Haven, was westbound in a 2011 Cadillac SRX when he attempted a left turn onto Keystone Boulevard without proper clearance and struck a 2015 Ford F150 truck driven by Frederick D. Podobinski, 62, of Marion Heights, Northumberland County, who was eastbound.

Both drivers were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville, for treatment of injuries.

Bonilla was cited for driving while operating privilege is suspended.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 6:40 a.m. on Sept. 25 along West Main Street in Ringtown. Troopers said Damien M. Cerklewski, 46, of Mount Carmel, was driving a 2016 Cadillac CTS westbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle veered to the right and struck a parked 2001 Jeep Wrangler.

Cerklewski had a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention. Troopers cited Cerklewski for careless driving.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported on Sept. 20 at 12:44 a.m. along Route 895 in East Brunswick Township. Troopers said a vehicle was operated westbound in the area of 2230 Route 895 when it left the road and struck a utility pole. After impact the driver fled the scene. The hit-and-run vehicle is believed to be a large truck, possibly a dump truck.
