DUI/Drug charges

Area state police reported on driving under the influence cases:

• A 61-year-old Allentown man was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and forged documents following a traffic stop made by state police at the Stroudsburg barracks at 11:31 a.m. Sept. 6.

Police said they stopped the 2006 Jeep Liberty on Route 115 in the vicinity of Kunkletown Road in Ross Township. They found the man to be under the influence and in possession of drugs.

• On Sept. 23 at 7:17 p.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop along Stockton Mountain Road in Hazle Township, of a 2004 Ford Explorer. The driver, a 35-year-old man from Weatherly, who troopers declined to identify, was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of a controlled substance

• A 34-year-old Saylorsburg man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop conducted by state police at the Stroudsburg barracks at 12:46 a.m. Sept. 26.

Police said they stopped the 2009 Mercury Mariner for a violation on Route 115 in the vicinity of Meixsell Valley Road in Ross Township. Police said they found the man to be driving under the influence of alcohol. His name was not released.

• State police at Stroudsburg reported investigating a one-vehicle crash at 10:55 p.m. on Sept. 19 along Route 209 in Hamilton Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said the road was closed, due to a tree and power lines on the road. Richard Rooney, 60, of Long Pond, driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, drove through the closed road sign and cones which were blocking the road. His vehicle crashed into a tree that was laying across the road. Rooney attempted to back up and leave the scene but backed into another tree.

He suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment. Troopers indicated he is facing a DUI charge.

• A 61-year-old Jim Thorpe woman is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop made by state police at the Lehighton barracks at 8:24 p.m. Sept. 3.

Police said they stopped the 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van at the intersection of Club Road and Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township when the driver committed numerous traffic violations, after which time she was determined to be under the influence and in possession of the contraband. Her name ws not released.
