Second person dies as result of Washington Twp. crash

A second person has died as a result of a crash on Sept. 8 in Washington Township, Slatington.

Francis Andres, 50, of Slatington, was pronounced dead on Friday at 4:22 p.m., in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

State police at Bethlehem said Andres was the driver of a truck that left the roadway and struck utility poles. The incident occurred at 10:15 p.m. on Route 873 and Grove Street, Slatington, Washington Township, Lehigh County.

Police said Andres was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, traveling south on 873 when it attempted to negotiate a right-hand turn, but failed, crossed over the northbound lane of travel and entered the eastern shoulder of Route 873.

The vehicle struck a utility pole with its front bumper at initial impact, continued to travel south, striking a second utility pole with its passenger side front quarter panel at secondary impact, and rotated clockwise, striking numerous street signs where it came to final rest.

Andres was treated at the scene by Northern Valley EMS and transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, while his passenger, Kristin Andres, 50, of Slatington, was transported to the hospital by Northampton Regional EMS, where she died.

Both people were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Also assisting at the scene were Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit, Troop M Forensic Services Unit and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
