Jim Thorpe Borough Council approved the following items during last week’s council meeting:
• Extended the COVID Disaster Declaration to Oct. 15.
• Ratified the Hurricane Ida Disaster Declaration of Sept. 1.
• The Blight Remediation Grant engineering proposal for 204 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe; engineering proposal for 209 N. First St., Lehighton; and demolition quotes for 509-511 Lehigh Ave., Palmerton.
• Announced Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau Pick Up The Poconos Day is Sept. 25. Through its anti-littering efforts, the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau is committed to keeping roads clean and beautifying the region.
• Announced the Jim Thorpe Fall Tire and Electronic Recycling event will be held Oct. 16; 7 to 11 a.m. at Memorial Hall. The borough is looking for volunteers to help. The event is open to residents of Jim Thorpe Borough only and proof of residency is required.
• “Lights at the Lake,” a drive-thru light show that will be held at the Mauch Chunk Lake Park. “Raising the House,” a local nonprofit organization, will host the event, which will take place Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 10 p.m., beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, through New Year’s. Lights and decorations are being provided by Rileighs Outdoor Decor, Bethlehem.
Visitors will enter the campground and stage on the left at the beach parking lot. They will be using an e-ticket system via phone to get drivers lined up and ready go through the display, which will be set up throughout the campgrounds.
They are also inviting other area organizations to volunteer to help out one of the evenings, and a portion of the proceeds will be given to that organization.
• An ordinance enacting permit parking in areas of West Broadway and High Street.
• An addendum to the Jim Thorpe Police Department collective bargaining agreement for a Deferred Retirement Option Program.
• Advertising an ordinance limiting the type of vehicle that can park in the first block of Broadway.
• A resolution for Local Share Account grant applications for Memorial Park Phase I Construction, $159,838.88; Community Center public address system/electronics, $32,099; and Jim Thorpe Little League Field equipment, $19,584.47.
• The 2022 police pension plan minimum municipal obligation of $155,949.
• The 2022 nonuniform minimum municipal obligation of $131,056.
• The police operation plan for the upcoming Fall Foliage Festival.
• Church Alley water and sewer improvements for $119,500.50. Trench restoration will begin the week of Sept. 12 and paving should begin soon as well.
• Floor repairs for the Onoko Fire and Rescue station on the east side of town in the amount of $5,300 to Tom Leinhard Masonry of Lehigh Street, Jim Thorpe.
• Scheduled proposed budget work sessions, if needed, for Oct. 27, Nov. 3, 10 and 17 at Memorial Park Hall, 6:30 p.m.
