Strong thunderstorms that moved through the area late last night caused several power outages through the region, and caused school delays this morning.
St. Jerome Regional School, Marian Catholic High School and Tamaqua Area School District in Schuylkill County are all operating on a two-hour delay due to power outages at the schools. Panther Valley School District is also operating on a two-hour delay.
As of 6 a.m. Tuesday, approximately 4,300 homes were without power in the Tamaqua, Hometown, Rush Township and West Penn areas. Estimated time for power restoration is between 7 and 11 p.m. for most of the homes affected, PPL Electric states on its outage map.
