Banking executive Miles Haberman is Lehighton’s new borough manager.

Haberman, a resident of the borough and former mayor and councilman, was chosen from about 20 candidates and was tabbed on a 5-2 vote. Lee Getz, William Noll, James Garis, James Hall and Darryl Arner voted in his favor while Robert Moser and Donald Rehrig favored David Harleman, a member of the borough’s water authority and an engineer in Whitehall Township.

Haberman said he will give his current employer, Hazleton National Bank, a two-week notice today. He is vice president and branch loan administrator for the bank.

He succeeds Edward Deichmeister of Northampton, who resigned the post to accept a position in Northampton County.
