Neighbors and friends mourn Saylorsburg man
Neighbors and friends are mourning the death of 23-year-old Dalton O. Davidson, who died Wednesday morning at the hospital.
“It’s very somber in the neighborhood today. We saw someone bring his truck and trailer home,” said Brenda Hawk, who lives on the other side of the woods from Davidson’s family on Meixsell Valley Road in Ross Township.
Davidson formerly worked at Gary’s Bow Shack and most recently at Carquest, where her husband, Doug, liked to go and talk to Davidson a lot.
“He was a cool guy. He would do anything for anybody. He was that type of guy,” said Brenda Hawk.
The Hawks’ grandson, Josh Frantz, went to school and was best buddies with Davidson.
“So, he’s very upset today,” Hawk said.
He graduated from Pleasant Valley, where he was also close friends with Jody Honey’s sons, Ryan and Austin.
“It is a very sad day. He was very nice and respectful,” Honey said. “I got a text late last night from Ryan about the accident. My prayers go out to his family.”
Davidson was reportedly at the West End Fair on Tuesday evening using a John Deere A series tractor to move debris during the demolition derby.
The crash that took Davidson’s life occurred after he left the demolition derby and did not occur at the fairgrounds.
Fair officials declined comment, stating the crash is under investigation.
According to Pennsylvania State Police at Fern Ridge, emergency crews were dispatched at 10:43 p.m. to a crash on Route 209 in front of the West End Printing building.
The crash involved his tractor and a Subaru Forester, driven by Alice G. Weaver, 74, of Lehighton.
Davidson was driving southbound past Fairgrounds Road and was slowing down to make a right turn.
As he slowed, he was struck in the rear by the Forester. He was thrown from the tractor. The tractor rolled over and came to rest 39 feet from the point of impact across both lanes of travel.
He was flown by medical helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He died at 5:09 Wednesday morning.
Weaver and her passenger, Harry B. Weaver, also 74, were taken by West End ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Pocono, East Stroudsburg.
Troopers cited Weaver for driving at an unsafe speed.
