Driver flown from Towamensing crash scene

A motorist was seriously injured Sunday evening when involved in a violent crash in Towamensing Township. The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. as he was traveling north on Route 209 just north of Stagecoach road. His vehicle entered the right berm and hit a tree.

The car came to rest on its left side. Towamensing and Franklin township firefighters extricated the man from the wreckage.

The victim was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being flown by MedEvac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley hospital trauma center in Allentown.

The force of the impact was so great the engine was found lying on the roadway. State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident.
