Lehighton looks to revamp traffic control at events by next year

The matter of traffic control for future events is expected to be revamped by next year in Lehighton.

Based on discussion at last week’s borough council meeting, it appears the plan will be implemented in 2022.

Councilman Ryan Saunders said it’s important that the borough mandate more of a police presence.

Saunders added the costs would be the responsibility of the respective event hosts to pay for police services per officer per hour.

Councilman Joe Flickinger said he doesn’t believe it should be up to council, but rather the police department.

It was noted the borough would only be charging for police services and not fire.

Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said it would pertain to anything that would require a road closure or traffic control.
