The Northampton County District Attorney’s Office has released the identities of men involved in the shooting Sunday at Lower Nazareth Commons, off Route 248 in Lower Nazareth Township.
The deceased man is Elijah Johnson, 20, last known address is listed as Canadensis, Monroe County. Northampton County Coroner Zach Lysek said he died of multiple gunshot wounds. The death has been ruled a homicide.
Jayzell Avery Sanders, 22, of Mount Pocono, was transferred to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Sanders told Colonial Regional Police that he was a front seat passenger in a black Buick Regal in the parking lot near Target. He said two men pulled up next to him in a white car. They got out and got in the backseat of the Buick.
Sanders got out of the car and started to run toward the front of the store. The men started shooting and he fired back at them with his pistol. He said he put the pistol under a car in the parking lot.
Video surveillance confirms Sanders running through the parking lot and shooting back toward the Buick.
Police said Sanders does not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. He is charged with not having a license and recklessly endangering another person.
