Driver rescued after vehicle goes down embankment

Several fire companies responded to a head-on crash Monday afternoon on Route 209 between Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe. The incident happened about 3 p.m.

One of the vehicles went down an embankment.

The occupants of one vehicle were treated and transported to a local hospital by Lehighton Ambulance.

The driver of the second vehicle, after being extricated by the fire departments, was treated at the scene by Lehighton Ambulance and Life Flight crew and flown to a local trauma center.

Nesquehoning Fire Chief John McArdle said additional departments were called “due the nature of the entanglement, prolonged extrication and extreme heat of the day.”

Responding departments were all three Nesquehoning fire companies, Jim Thorpe, Lansford and Lehighton, Lehighton Ambulance, along with Nesquehoning Jim Thorpe Police. Fire Police from New Columbus, Nesquehoning, and Lansford assisted with traffic control. Zenner and Marouchoc towing handled the vehicle recovery.
