Carbon Co. Fair kicks off Monday

It’s back, with new attractions, crowd-pleasing entertainment, and more vendors than ever.

After a one-year absence, the Carbon County Fair is set to return to its familiar stamping grounds along Little Gap Road in Palmerton.

The 21st annual event runs Monday through Saturday. The fair is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

There is a $5 admission charge for everyone 6-years-and-older, and an additional fee of $6 for most arena events.

Robert Silliman, fair president, said they were able to pick up several new major fair sponsors, including both St. Luke’s Health Network, and Lehigh Valley Health Network.

Silliman noted that St. Luke’s will sponsor Children’s Day which is Tuesday, covering the costs of children in the ride area for a wristband. The rides will be free for children that day with the cost of fair entry.

The fair kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Monday with the opening ceremony and queen crowning. Dean Hahn & The Hawks will perform at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on the main stage; DJ Chicken Nugget will play from 6-9 p.m. in the arena, and a small garden tractor pull will take place at 7 p.m. in the small arena. A fireworks spectacular will be held at 9:30 p.m.

Tuesday is Children’s Day. Rides are free for children from 4 to 10 p.m. The rides for children 18-years-and-younger are sponsored by St Luke’s University Health Network. Rick K And The Allnighters With The Belle Tones will perform at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on the main stage, while Wagstaff & Company will play at 6 and 8 p.m. on the midway. There will also be a lumber jack contest at 7 p.m. in the arena, and children’s day drawing at 8 p.m. on the midway.

Wednesday is Senior Citizen’s Day. Tre Twitty and Tayla Lynn, the grandchildren of Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, will perform at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on the main stage. A demolition derby junk car race will take place at 7 p.m. in the arena, followed by a senior citizen’s drawing at 8 p.m.

The Mudflaps will perform at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the main stage. A demolition derby for youth & adults will be held at 7 p.m. in the arena.

Friday will see the Barnyard Olympics at 5 p.m. in the small arena, followed by the classic tractor pull at 6 p.m. The Fabulous Grease Band will perform at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on the main stage.

The fair wraps up Saturday, and will include a Coal Cracker Cornhole Tournament at 3 p.m., followed by a Tough Truck Event at 4 p.m. in the arena. The Cramer Brothers will perform at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. on the main stage.

There is also craft beer, a wine garden, hatchet throwing, Buster the Clown and Farmer For a Day each day of the event.

Silliman said record crowds are expected, and urged everyone to attend.

“The weather’s shaping up; they want it to be warm, (hardly) no rain forecast, and the night will be cool,” he said. “Everybody should come out and enjoy.”
