A woman and child were rescued Thursday from a quarry in Washington Township.
The incident began around 3:30 p.m. when a woman who lives along Welshtown Road heard the cries of a woman in distress.
The woman traveled down to an area of five quarries and found a woman and child in one of the quarries and in danger.
The woman made her way back up to 2850 Welshtown Road and asked the neighbor to call 911. The Friedens Fire company, medics and state police responded.
The two were brought to safety and evaluated. Neighbors said they did not know the victims or where they may have come from.
