State police at the Fern Ridge barracks are investigating theft by deception cases in Chestnuthill Township.

A 73-year-old Saylorsburg woman is the victim of a “cloned credit card” case in which the thief purchased fuel at 8 a.m. July 10, police said.

In the second case, a 71-year-old Brodheadsville man thwarted off an attempted theft.

Police said he was contacted at 5:41 p.m. July 23 via email, with the author of the script telling him he needed to renew his “cloud” account by paying $349 with Target gift cards.

Police said the man halted the attempt and did not suffer any financial loss.
