Carbon man cited for drunkenness in Tamaqua

A Carbon County man was cited following an incident in Tamaqua.

Borough police said on July 9 at 1:30 a.m. an officer on patrol observed a man walking and stumbling in and out of traffic in the rain in the area of Route 309 and 209, the Five Point intersection.

Police stopped the man, who was identified as Shawn James Leone, 21, of Broad Street, Beaver Meadows.

Leone told the officer he was homeless and wanted to be taken to a shelter. When asked how he got to Tamaqua, Leone initially said through a friend, but then changed his story and said by bus. He appeared to be under the influence, police said. He denied using drugs and said he had not used drugs in a long time.

He was taken into custody and charged with public drunkenness. Borough police said they have arrested Leone in the past.
