Two property owners in Palmerton have 10 days to fix a water leak.
During the borough’s water leak detection survey, a leak was found on the shared lateral serving the properties at 643-645 Lehigh Ave.
In a letter dated Tuesday, borough Manager Donna McGarry said the borough did some isolation tests which verified that the problem was on the lateral, and the leak appears to be significant and may leave them without water altogether.
McGarry said the lateral from the curb box in is the homeowners’ responsibility, and they should arrange to do the repairs as soon as possible.
She said that in accordance with a Palmerton Municipal Authority resolution, water service may be discontinued if the property owner has not caused repairs to be made within 10 days after written notice by the authority, or at any time if water escaping therefrom is causing loss of water and/or revenue to the Authority.
McGarry said the borough would work with whoever the homeowners’ determine to do the repairs to provide shut-off services as needed at the borough’s standard fee depending on when the shut-off is needed.
She said questions may be directed to the borough office at 610-826-2505.
