The First Presbyterian Church in Jim Thorpe, founded in 1835, will close its doors on Sunday, Oct. 6, under a merger plan announced to members of the congregation this week.
The historic structure, long a landmark in the county seat, adjoins the Marian Hose Company and is close to the former Capitol Theatre building on West Broadway.
The merger will be with the First Presbyterian Church of the Panther Valley, representing Presbyterian churches in Lansford and Summit Hill, with headquarters in the latter community.
The Revs. Carl and Donna Gray will continue to serve the parish.
