Monroe County group provides bicycles to area children
Ed Connolly truly believes every child deserves wheels, whether it is a bike, scooter, or skateboard.
On June 17, 2017, No Kids Without Wheels created.
He is quick to say there would not be a No Kids Without Wheels without Our Lady Queen of Peace in Gilbert, as well as the two dedicated two volunteers who wish to remain anonymous.
“We refurbish, clean up and inspect the safety, then donate the wheels to children who don’t have wheels,” Connolly said.
In the first six months, with just word of mouth through parishioners, No Kids Without Wheels provided 62 kids with a bike of their own.
If you happen to drive by Connolly’s house, you will see bikes and scooters just about everywhere you look. You might think it is the final stop for old and no longer used bikes and scooters, but once he and his volunteers get to work, it won’t be long before it becomes someone’s wheels.
Four years later, thanks to Connolly and his helpers, more than 900 kids have wheels.
It is truly a team effort, according to him.
“Without Our Lady Queen of Peace, volunteers, and businesses like Bulldog Liquidators, which has been so generous, and all the people who donate bikes, we would not be able to do what we do.”
Word has spread, and now every Christmas, the nonprofit donates bikes to PVEN and has even delivered wheels to upstate New York and New Jersey.
“We have even delivered bikes to other states that have asked us if we could,” he said.
If you want to help, you may make a monetary donation through Our Lady Queen of Peace Church mark it for No Kids Without Wheels.
