A contract calling for a pay increase of $64 over two years for a 40-hour week was ratified yesterday by members of Local 522, United Cement, Lime and Gypsum Workers Union, with the F&M Schaefer Brewing Company, Fogelsville.
Marvin Wright, the union’s district representative, said the men who were on strike for 10 days will return to their jobs immediately. All 286 employees involved are expected to be back at work by the end of the week, he said.
The contract stipulates all employees will receive a $1 per hour increase in the first year of the pact and a hike of 60 cents per hour in the second year.
The average hourly rate for area brewery workers is $4.72 per hour.
