SS. Peter and Paul

Office closed

The parish office will be closed on Monday in observance of Independence Day.

Masses

Lord’s Day Masses at SS. Peter and Paul Parish, 260 N. Third St., Lehighton, begin on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 7:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. Father Christopher M. Zelonis offers the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with the assistance of Deacon Joseph C. Wilhelm Jr. There are no distance requirements, and masks do not need to be worn unless you are not yet two weeks from your second vaccination. For those who need or desire the space, our parish hall (school building) livestreams each Mass from church and can fit an additional 25 people. Daily Masses take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 8 a.m.; these are also livestreamed, but are not simulcast in the parish hall.

Father makes available the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) for 45 minutes before Masses on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m.

For those who are not ready or able to join us in person, each Mass is livestreamed on our parish Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/sspplehightonpa, and on our website, peterandpaulchurch.com, and is available on our parish YouTube channel. We love the sight and sound of children!

Night watch

In this diocesan “Year of the Real Presence,” our parish wants to renew love for Jesus, “truly, really, and substantially present” under the appearances of bread and wine. As members of Christ’s Mystical Body we also want to be “really present” to God and one another in our communal celebration of the Lord’s Sacrifice; to grow in our reverence and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament; to renew our active repentance for sin through more frequent Confession; and to cultivate openness to ordained and consecrated vocations for our diocese. To those ends, SSPP holds “Night Watch,” Eucharistic Adoration and Confession from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month.

PREP

Sign up at formed.org under our parish to gain access to solid Catholic content for all ages.

Our young people’s doctrinal, liturgical, moral and spiritual formation takes place during the school year from 8:45 to 10 a.m. in the parish hall, observing all sanitary precautions. Registration for the 2021-22 year of PREP is underway. Contact Deacon Wilhelm at 610-377-3690 for more information.

While the rectory porch is under construction, rectory visits and deliveries will be received at the back door. Confessions have resumed for now in the crying room at the back of church.

Block party

Our summer “Backyard Bash” block party will take place on July 23 and July 24 from 5 to 10 p.m. American and ethnic foods, large-item and gift card raffles, children’s games, bingo, entertainment and great fun all around! At the rectory or after Masses consider purchasing tickets for four prizes to be raffled off at the end of the event: $500 cash, a propane grill, a wood-burning firepit, and a set of zero-gravity chairs (slate of prizes corrected from last week). We are in dire need of volunteers in every facet of the event; contact the rectory for more information. If you have donations of gift cards of any vendor and denomination, please drop them off at the rectory in an envelope so-marked.

Pilgrimage

If any parishioners want to attend the Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 7, inform the parish office. Although we currently will seek to join with the bus of another parish, with sufficient interest we will field our own. But act fast!
