Lehighton man charged with assault of mother, resisting arrest

A Lehighton man has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after assaulting his mother and stepfather.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Joseph Campano, Lehighton barracks, in the case against James Silvers.

At 12:45 p.m. on June 27, police responded to a home on Lauchnor Grove Lane for a report of a domestic incident between Silvers, 42, and his mother and stepfather.

Police saw that Silvers’ stepfather had severe injuries to his face, including multiple cuts and swollen eyes.

His memory of the incident had been blacked out by possible internal head trauma.

Silvers’ mother said that Silvers was upstairs, and during the incident with his stepfather, Silvers threw her to the ground and stomped on her stomach, possibly causing internal injuries.

Silvers’ stepfather was transported via EMS to St. Luke’s Lehighton for his injuries, while Silvers’ mother went to the hospital on her own.

Silvers resisted arrest and fought with officers at the scene, before he was eventually subdued and placed under arrest.

After Silvers’ arrest, drug paraphernalia was found around the room.

Silvers faces charges of aggravated assault; simple assault; use/possession of drug paraphernalia; resisting arrest/other law enforcement; and harassment.

He is in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on July 7 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
