James Stanley Vingara, 54, of Biddle Street, Tamaqua, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property, limitations on backing and careless driving.
According to Tamaqua police on June 14 at 2:50 a.m. a complaint was received from a resident on Biddle Street concerning a hit-and-run crash. The witness told officers his neighbor across the street, identified as Vingara, had backed his GMC pickup into a parked Subaru and then left the scene. The incident occurred near Biddle and Greenwood streets.
As the officer spoke to the witness Vingara drove by his home but continued south on Greenwood Street. Another officer stopped the pickup in the area of East Broad and Greenwood streets.
Officers detected an odor of alcohol coming from Vingara and he admitted to have been drinking earlier in the day.
He taken into custody and transported to St. Luke’s Miners Campus, Coaldale, but refused a blood draw.
He was brought back to the police station, charged and released.
