West End news for June 30, 2021
Carnival tonight
The West End Carnival, to benefit the four West End Fire companies, begins tonight at 6 p.m. and continues through Saturday.
It is being held at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert and promises great fair food and rides for the younger set.
COVID-19 social distancing and safety practices will be in place.
The old-fashioned carnival will benefit all four companies: Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Department, West End Fire Company, Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company and Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder.
Registration ends
West End Soccer League 2021 online fall soccer registration will close today.
OES meeting
The Monroe Chapter of the OES will meet in person at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rimrock Masonic Center. There are several items on the agenda for the evening.
Monthly meeting
The Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Wellness classes
The West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting two wellness classes.
Instructor Leslie Glover offers FitDance Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and PiYo Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. and Thursday at 6 p.m.
There is a cost.
Instructor Jan Akob will have yoga classes in the field band shell from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesdays, weather permitting.

Art exhibit opens
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is hosting an art exhibit featuring Andrea Henley in Wings and Things.
She combines her love of nature and macrophotography in a captivating exhibit depicting nature in the Pocono Mountains. Her work will be on display in the gallery at Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center from Thursday through July 30. It is open during the EEC regular business hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Legion meeting
The American Legion, Post 927, Gilbert, is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Bike Night
On Friday, the Bike Night at the American Legion in Gilbert is an open community event. It is to run from 5 to 9 p.m. and will include, music, foods, best bike contest and more.
1,000 Hail Marys
On Saturday, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, at 8:30 a.m., begins the first Saturday of the month to meet and pray the 1,000 Hail Marys in the chapel.
Parishioners are encouraged to join in, even if only for part of the time.
Outdoor services
St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is moving its 9 a.m. worship service into the grove. Worshippers are reminded to bring lawn chairs or people can also listen in their car from the parking lot.
A reminder for those worshipping if they do not like prepackaged Communion, they may bring their own elements on Communion Sunday.
Deposit due
A reminder to folks who are going to the Women of Purpose Conference Prevail in Hershey this fall.
The required nonrefundable deposit is due by Sunday at the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church.
Fourth celebration
The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church family, Brodheadsville, is celebrating the Fourth of July at the church beginning at 6 p.m.
Meeting change
Due to upcoming holiday on Monday, the next Ross Township Board of Supervisors will be at 7 p.m. July 12.
Offices closed
Effort UMC’s office will be closed on Monday due to the holiday on Sunday.
The office of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will also be closed on Monday.
Bingo night
Monday night it’s time for the open-to-community bingo time at the American Legion in Gilbert. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m.; game calling at 7 p.m.

Many wheels
The No Kids Without Wheels, a ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace church, is now 4 years old. During that time 952 bicycles have been given away to deserving people.

Effort UMC ‘s Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
WEHA meeting
All Post 927 members are welcome to attend the monthly West End Home Association meeting at Legion Post 927 in Gilbert on Tuesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
