A Mount Pocono man was placed on probation on Tuesday after previously pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of corruption of a minor in a case that dates back nine years.
Benjamin Jacob Bird, 42, was placed on probation for 18 months by Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Bird was arrested by state police for an incident involving a juvenile male at a location in Packer Township on Sept. 22, 2012. The teen alleged that Bird made inappropriate advances of a sexual nature to him while in a cabin.
In exchange for the plea, two felony counts of corruption of a minor and unlawful contact with a minor-sexual offenses were dropped.
The case had 27 continuances before finally getting to a guilty plea and sentencing.
Defense attorney Paul J. Levy said his client was receiving medical treatment for mental health and other issues and will continue with the counseling.
Matika also ordered Bird to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, render 50 hours of community service, have no contact with the victim, make restitution of $449.29, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
