Conditional approval recommended for Valor Clinic Retreat
A clinic to help veterans in Kidder Township is one step closer to becoming a reality.
On Tuesday, the Carbon County Planning Commission recommended conditional plan approval for the Valor Clinic Retreat along Meckes Lane in Kidder Township.
The plans call for developing 10-plus acres of the 188.77-acre site. It includes constructing a 10,060-square-foot three-story grand hall, 1,760-square-foot cadre apartment, 6,600-square-foot two-story dormitory, 1,483-square-foot training pole barn, and a storage facility, pavilion, maintenance building and parking.
Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, outlined his findings, which showed several items that should be addressed before final plan approval is given. Some items included provided evidence of adequate water supply and sewage disposal systems will be included; there will be adequate water sources for fire departments in the event of a fire; obtaining an NPDES permit for stormwater discharge; and obtaining a highway occupancy permit for the proposed driveway.
The commission’s recommendations and Meixell’s findings will now be sent to Kidder Township for inclusion in the final approval process.
The Valor Clinic Retreat has been in the works for several years.
In 2018, Valor Clinic founder and CEO Mark Baylis told the Times News that the group, which helps veterans through assistance with benefit applications, housing, therapy and medical coverage, has been looking for a suitable area to construct their own retreat facility for years.
The land that will be used for the retreat was purchased from a family who was moving to Florida at half the market value.
According to the article in 2018, the location will also provide an opportunity to continue a fly fishing program and has potential for additional recreational therapy options.
