A number of area teams will be participating in the District 18 Little League softball tournaments.

Jim Thorpe and Anthracite/Towamensing will be part of the three-team tournament in the 10-12 age group, while Anthracite and Towamensing will battle it out for the 8-10 championship.

In the 10-12 tourney, which starts on Monday, the two area teams will be joined by host Hazleton. Each team will play four games - two against both squads. The team with the best record will be the district champs. If two teams are tied, there will be a one-game playoff on June 29.

All games in the 10-12 tournament will be played at St. Stan’s Field, 17th & Hayes Streets, Hazleton.

In the 8-10 tourney, to be held at Lansford, Anthracite and Towamensing will meet in a best-of-three series.
