Ty Sharrow, a native of Lehighton and 2017 graduate of Lehighton Area High School, has been named the Keystone Outstanding Graduate at Keystone College. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife biology and a minor in psychology on May 24. An Honors Scholar, he plans to pursue a career in conservation biology following graduation.

Sharrow’s achievements in and out of the classroom have been exceptional. In addition to being named the Outstanding Graduate, he also received the Department of Biological & Physical Sciences and Mathematics award for excellence in research for his capstone project which studies snakes and salamanders. An inquisitive scholar, Sharrow has conducted research in the fields of conservation biology and ornithology and has presented his research at international conferences.

An avid outdoorsman, Sharrow is passionate about nature. He is a lifelong bird watcher and is a member of the National Audubon Society. During his time at Keystone he was an active steward of the Woodlands Campus and installed a bird garden. Sharrow also has completed plant restoration initiatives and installed multiple bird nest boxes across campus.

Active in the campus community, he has been a member of the Science Living and Learning Community for four years and served as president for two years. Sharrow is also an engaged member of Keystone’s Student Wildlife Society Chapter and Eco Club and also served as an Admissions Ambassador and Orientation leader.

A true student of the liberal arts, Sharrow has a great love for music. He plays the saxophone and bassoon with the Department of Performance Music’s Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Saxophone Trio, and has represented Keystone at multiple intercollegiate band festivals.
