E. Penn to release lien on property; veterans group to pay $25,000

The East Penn Township board of supervisors Monday agreed to release a lien on property a veterans group wants to purchase.

The Pennsylvania Outdoor Veterans want to purchase the community center. This would give the organization space to hold events for veterans and caregivers such as fly tying for fishing and resume writing.

However, the township had a lien on the community center, saying that Clair Troxell’s $640,000 judgments must be paid if his properties were sold.

During a meeting from last month, the board was asked for an amount that the township would want to release the community center from the lien for.

At Monday’s meeting, a motion was made by Supervisor Alice Berger to allow the release of the community center from the lien for no less than $25,000, to be paid to the township.

The Troxells would receive nothing and the IRS and state judgments would be paid ahead of time. It was seconded by Supervisor Dennis Pearson and unanimously passed in a voice vote.

This amount will be paid to the township rather than Troxell as a result of the $640,000 he owes in fines to the township regarding property maintenance.

Along with the $640,000 judgment, Chairman William Schwab also noted a $244,000 judgment that Troxell owes as well.

Aside from the community center, Troxell also owns six other properties in the surrounding area in not only East Penn but also in Lehighton and Weissport as well.

A motion was therefore made by Supervisor Gary Kuehner to release all the remaining property for $250,000, provided it is paid within 90 days, excluding the community center. The motion was seconded by Pearson and unanimously approved.
