Tamaqua police reported on the following incidents:
• Paula Chapman, 52, of Cedar Street, Tamaqua, is facing charges of theft, receiving stolen property, theft of property lost by mistake and criminal mischief.
On April 23 at 11:15 a.m. police received information from the U.S. Post Office in the borough that a woman had reported to them that a neighbor, later identified as Chapman, was seen taking her mail packages and throwing them into Cedar Street. The packages had been put on victim’s porch by a mail carrier.
A woman across the street in the parking lot of Boyer’s Market, watched Chapman take the packages and throw them into the street. One of the packages was run over by a car. The female witness retrieved the two packages and made contact with the victim via Facebook and returned the packages.
The charges were then filed against Chapman. Total value of the items in the packages was $65.68.
• James G. Stintsman, 55, of Pottsville, is facing charges of simple assault and harassment - physical contact.
Police said on May 23 at 3:12 a.m. officers received a report of a physical confrontation on the 100 block of E. Broad Street. A woman said that Stintsman, who was staying with her as a friend, struck her in the face with a hard wooden object. She said it happened while the two were in bed sleeping and she asked Stintsman to roll over due to his snoring. At this point, she said, he became agitated and violent toward her and struck her. When officers made contact with Stintsman, he was sleeping in bed with a wooden object still in his hand. He was then taken into custody and charged.
