Those who run and walk in Palmerton are encouraged to use the borough’s sidewalks rather than its streets.
Resident Jared Cebrosky told borough council on Thursday that he was traveling along borough streets when he had a close call.
“It seems like we provide sidewalks, but runners and walkers love to use the macadam,” Cebrosky said. “I had to hit the brakes; I almost hit them.”
Councilwoman Holly Hausman-Sell said this isn’t the first time the matter has been discussed.
“In the past, we’ve asked if the police department sees it, strongly encourage them to utilize the sidewalks for their own safety,” Hausman-Sell said. “Or, they could use other areas besides our streets.”
Hausman-Sell said she knows a lot of runners like to use the roads, but encouraged people to stay out of the middle of the street when they are running.
Cebrosky said it’s for the wellness of everyone.
“It’s a matter of safety,” he said.
