A male was taken to a hospital after he was injured in an early morning fire. His age was not released.
An employee of the Schuylkill County Communications Center said the fire at 266 W. Cottage Ave. in Tamaqua was called in at 11:54 p.m. Monday.
Tamaqua Fire Chief James Connely said the person who was injured did not live at the home but was visiting those did. The man, whose age he did not provide, was flown to a hospital. Additional information on his condition was not provided. He said three adults and two children resided at the rented home. Two dogs died in the fire. All occupants escaped before firefighters arrived.
Connely said a Tamaqua Police officer was the first to arrive.
“The building was pretty much all involved,” he said.
He said the home is “a total loss.” A damage estimate was not provided.
The fire was contained in about an hour.
State Police Fire Marshal John Burns is investigating. Connely called him because he wanted his help with the origin of the fire. He does not know if the home had working smoke detectors. The property owner, whom he did not name, said the home had them. The renters did not have insurance. Connely is trying to determine if the home was insured.
Responding to the scene were the Tamaqua Fire Department, Tamaqua Ambulance, Mahoning Ambulance, Lehighton ALS, and Panther Valley Rapid Intervention Team.
