An area woman in a Ford Focus crashed her vehicle while trying to negotiate a turn in Nesquehoning, mangling her car and severing the town’s main flagpole.
The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the three-point intersection of routes 209 and 54.
According to police Chief Sean Smith, the woman, who has not been identified, was driving south on Route 209 Sunday when she failed to negotiate the turn at the three-point intersection with Route 54. Her vehicle struck the curb on the island area where the Nesquehoning UVO’s veteran memorial stands, and rolled, hitting the flagpole before coming to rest at the edge of the KME Rev Group’s property. The pole, as well as a street light fell, blocking the intersection from Route 209 to Route 54.
Smith said there were witnesses and police were gathering information regarding the crash.
The driver was entrapped and had to be cut from the wreckage by Nesquehoning fire companies.
The driver was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital.
In addition to Nesquehoning police and fire companies, fire police responded and provided traffic control.
Smith said the investigation is continuing.
